LANGKAWI TRIP 2016 - DAY 3: BLACK SAND BEACH & AYER HANGAT VILLAGE

BLACK SAND BEACH

We had planned to spend the first half of the day at the Panorama Langkawi but after seeing the queue at the counters, we felt we would end up having to spend the entire day there and thus we decided to postpone our SkyCab ride and the visit to the SkyBridge to the next day.

It was actually a good decision that we made as we were able to visit other places throughout the day. Since this was our last full day in Langkawi, we decided to go pretty much one full round around Langkawi. So, from Panorama Langkawi we drove to Pantai Pasir Hitam (Black Sand Beach). I was interested to see if the sand is really black in colour. While on the way to the Black Sand Beach, we saw a road-side stall selling some fruits, drinks and food. It was also very near to the shore and hence we made a quick stop-over. The stall was actually a make-shift lorry and they were selling Chendol. I decided to grab a cup and head to the seashore. It was very VERY windy!

The wind + the sound of the waves was simply therapeutic. I almost wanted to take a nap there!

A cold cup of Chendol; The amazing breeze; Perfect afternoon!

After the short stopover, we continued our way to the Black Sand Beach which was merely a few minutes away. You will see a few shops selling clothes and other souvenirs on the side of the road. There is a small car park and toilets there as well. After doing some quick shopping we headed down to the beach.

As you can see, the sand is black in colour. I saw a stall selling this sand in small souvenir bottles for RM3 per bottle!

AYER HANGAT VILLAGE

We didn't have a proper lunch and I decided to just grab some food from this stall! After doing some more "light" shopping, we drove to Ayer Hangat Village. I knew about this place from my previous trip to Langkawi in 2011.

Location of Ayer Hangat Village:

As you can see, Ayer (Air) Hangat Village is near Pantai Pasir Hitam. The entrance fee is RM5 and there is no time limit on your stay there.

Alternatively, you can choose to relax at the "free" hot spring well as shown above. The top most tier (the one that is in between the two wooden planks) is where the hot water comes from. It then flows into other tiers making the water less hot. One aspect about this place is that it is not covered by a shelter and if it is a hot day, then you are definitely going to feel the heat.

My feet felt better after awhile!

FOOT MASSAGE

The Spa at Ayer Hangat Village.

After sitting at the hot spring for awhile, we decided to go a for a massage at the resident spa area. Due to the time and also budget, we went for a foot massage instead of a full body massage. They were having a promotion where they charged RM35 for 30 minutes.

The foot massage was really good! After soaking my feet in this lemon+herbs filled warm water, the masseuse began the foot massage. She first used a scrub on my feet before doing simple massages.

After which I was asked to lie down here, face up. Then she put a cool towel to cover my eyes and continued with the rest of the foot massage. It was here that the masseuse was more thorough. The massage was so relaxing that I actually dozed off for a few minutes. I wished I had gone for the full body massage but nevertheless, it was really good experience at this spa. It was not crowded and after soaking your feet in the hot spring, having a foot massage only made me feel more relaxed!

TEA TIME!

While returning back to our hotel, we stopped by for tea along the roadside adjacent to Idaman Suri. It's a shopping mall along Jalan Ayer Hangat.

We just grabbed a few curry puffs, ondeh-ondeh, donuts and other snacks that I really don't know the name of. The tea however was simply amazing!

FINAL DINNER AT LANGKAWI

Last dinner in Langkawi! :-(
Photo: By me

For our last dinner at Langkawi, we went to local "food court" near Azio Hotel which we happened to pass by while driving. It looks similar to a food court in Singapore with different stalls selling various kinds of food. We were there around 2200hrs and that was when the evening crowd was clearing. I ordered Nasi Goreng Daging Merah as I've never tried it before. The dish came with fried rice, a fried egg and slices of beef in some sweet sauce. The dish was really nice and filling!

We finished our dinner around 2330hrs and headed back to the hotel to do our final packing. Before that, I went online to try to book the tickets for the SkyCab, but when I went to the booking/payment page, I was bitterly disappointed.

Payment options for online purchasing
Photo: Screenshot

As you can see, there is no Visa or Mastercard available for payment. Which means, unless you have one of the bank accounts/cards mentioned here, you won't be able to make online purchases for your tickets. Do also note, even if you had one of these cards/bank accounts, you will be making an online bank transfer, and not really a payment. Further reading of the online payment T&Cs inform us that after the transfer has been made, a confirmation email will be sent to you and that you have to show this email at the ticket counter when collecting your tickets.

As we didn't have any of the cards/bank accounts, we had no choice but to head to the ticket counters early tomorrow to purchase the tickets.

The last full day at Langkawi had come to an end! ;-(
