This was my first ever experience purchasing items from Amazon, which was partially fuelled by Black Friday sales. However, none of the items that I bought were a Black Friday sale item; they were at a discounted price though and when compared to the retail prices in Singapore, they are less expensive. If you're total shopping cart costs at least USD125, then you are entitled to free shipping to Singapore. I decided to hit this mark and bought 4 items.
UPS was delivering item 1 and Aramex is delivering items 2 - 4. I'll share my experiences with UPS in this post and I'll post about Aramex's service in the next blog after I've received my package.
So, item 1 reached Singapore on Saturday, 5th Dec 2015 and no delivery was made. (That's understandable). I waited till Monday morning to call UPS to inform them that nobody will be home during office hours in the week and to only make delivery from 7pm onwards. The customer service officer acknowledged my request.
No delivery on Monday.
I called them on Tuesday morning to inform them the same timing.
No delivery on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, despite calling in the morning to inform them to have the item delivered from 7pm onwards, they proceeded to make a delivery attempt at 2.30pm. Obviously nobody was at home. I called them in the evening after I reached home and decided to let them deliver to my office address during office hours. But no delivery was made up till 5.30pm on Thursday. So I called UPS and asked them if delivery is going to be made, and they said no. I also asked them are you going to go to my residential address to have it delivered, and they also said no. Hence, I decide to stay back at work till 8pm to get work done.
When I went home at around 8.30pm, I saw a UPS InfoNotice sticker on my door. They had made a delivery attempt at 7.45pm. I called them up and asked them why they made a delivery when the CSO said that no delivery is going to be made. All they could say is 'sorry'. So I made them to stick to my residential address and deliver on Friday from 7pm onwards.
On Friday, they made a delivery attempt at 4.30pm and that was the final delivery attempt that they will make. After this, they'll store my item in their storage facility for 5 days before shipping it back to Amazon. I called them up on Friday evening and asked them why aren't they following my requests to have the item delivered from 7pm onwards. They couldn't really give me a proper explanation. All they could say is that they're sorry and they'll reschedule the delivery to Saturday, before 2pm. At this point, I wanted to say 'ok', but I had lost the trust I had on them. In addition I needed to be in church for music practice at 1pm, and I wasn't going to let UPS ruin that.
Thus, since church is near the east, and UPS is also in the east, I decided to do self-collection. It took me a total of 2+ hours to reach Changi South where UPS House is located. It was a bittersweet moment collecting my package. On hand, I was excited that my first ever purchase from Amazon is in my hands, but on the other hand the whole experience with UPS was just too disappointing.
It's pretty clear that UPS isn't getting customers' messages through to their delivery personnel or their delivery team is just plain ignorant. I mean, if you think you can't make the delivery on that day, then why go to my house even after I've told you nobody is going to home? Oh well. At least they didn't damage my item and it was still in one piece.
I'm now worried for the delivery by Aramex as I've read nothing my negative reviews on Aramex's Facebook page. Hopefully, they don't do the same as UPS. Fingers crossed!
These are the items I bought from Amazon!
